 the Entrepreneur Samurai/ Programme

The bootcamp is divided into two cycles: 5 days in bustling Tokyo and 5 days in the quietude of Japanese mountains.

The structure of the boot camp has been inspired by Miyamoto Musashi's ‘The Book of Five Rings,’ which the Harvard Business School has adapted for its own business course. Over ten days, you will go through the five elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Sky), learning Japanese martial arts and entrepreneurial strategies in each energy.

CYCLE I (DAYS 1-5): TOKYO

Days 1 & 2, EARTH/TIMING:

'When you engage in competition, you should neither move too quickly nor too slowly. It is not speed in itself, but rhythm and timing, which are critical. The appropriate moment is that point in time when the scales are tipped in favour of the tactics you have chosen. Concentration and timing work together. ' The Book of 5 Rings

YOUR ENTERPRISE: Rhythm and timing are the key in entrepreneurship. But one thing is to know it theoretically and the other is to Feel and Embody it. Whether it is hiring team, launching a product or mapping your year, we will bring a new understanding into this process.

YOUR PATH: You will also map out your life’s story to understand your evolution in your personal and professional lives. Methodically working through your past, you will get a good grasp of your life’s timing and flow. These 2 days will ground you in knowing your history more intimately than you could have ever imagined.

Days 3-4, WATER/BALANCE & ORDER:

'Balance order with flexibility. Flow like water around obstacles. Move slowly when conditions are unfavorable; move powerfully when the right course opens up. Everyone knows that water in a stream seeks the sea (water is ordered in its objectives), but who can tell how it will get there (water is flexible in its approach)? Think of winning, not of position.' The Book of 5 Rings

YOUR ENTERPRISE: will learn the power of ordered flexibility. You will discover how to move like water in your enterprise: how to stay in keeping with planning and timing, and yet remain flexible.

YOUR PATH: During this stage, you will move away from viewing the events of your life factually, and instead, you will explore your life and business through a mythological perspective. You will discover how deeply they are rooted in symbols, allegories, and tales that are shaping the way you decide every day.

DAY 5 - TRAVELLING TO MOUNTAINS, FREE TIME & DINNER

CYCLE II (DAYS 5-10): MOUNTAINS

Days 6-7, FIRE/ACTION/EXECUTION:

'In every moment (of competition), train yourself to be calm, expectant, observant. See things as they are. Do not be taken by surprise. Let your senses be open, your mind relaxed, your spirit balanced. Meet every challenge with a firm, yet flexible attitude, centering your attention on determining reality.'

YOUR ENTERPRISE: You will learn several strategies and principles in Japanese martial arts you can easily adapt in business negotiations and practically any challenging life's situation. You will understand that the cutting power of the sword exists just as much in your mind as it can be a physical tool in a fight.

YOUR PATH:  You will learn to tap into your potential that lies beyond your story or who you think you are. You will explore how you can use it as a source for taking action in your work, relationships and personal growth.

DAY 8, SKY/THE UNSEEN

MISOGI, WATERFALL CEREMONY

'By knowing things that exist, you can know that which does not exist.' From the Book of 5 Rings

On this day, we will integrate and cement our learnings so far by engaging in Misogi - a waterfall purification ceremony. We challenge ourselves to see beyond what we perceive to be 'normal' and 'common.' This is the time of reflection and going inwards.

DAYS 9,10 WIND/ FOCUS/ WISDOM:

'The ability to focus is your greatest asset in a competitive situation. When you appreciate the power of focus, you will feel the rhythm of your opponent and maintain control of his actions. You will understand his approach and effortlessly defeat him by naturally concentrating your attack in an appropriate place at an appropriate time.' From the Book of 5 Rings

YOUR PATH & ENTERPRISE: The Sword symbolises the connection with the spirit and higher forces. It is also the connection with your purpose and mission in your enterprise & personal life.

Now that you have learned of what lies within you, you can look outside of yourself and map out your mythical and compelling future vision.

Knowing your personal flow, the Strategy and the unseen, you can now consciously shape what is to come...
